North C and around

Graeme, you wanted to see the outside of my building.

Here it is: 'North C'. There is also, of course, a North A and B, and probably a D.

We are all on the 4th floor.

20,000 students live on campus during the semester. They live in communities of housing, North, North East, South, etc.

To give you an idea of how many buildings there are in one of these communities I stood in the middle of a lawn in North East this morning and just turned on the spot. All these buildings were part of this one complex of buildings.

Actually there are even more buildings, but the photos aren't that interesting. You will notice the total absence of people. It is kind of eerie. We feel like 18 people living in a city where there should be 20,000.

It does make things very peaceful though. For those people on the course from more exciting countries than NZ, (ie, almost everyone) the campus is a torture of quietness and inactivity. For me, it's exciting! Squirrels and baby rabbits running across the lawn? Cool!

I know that in the winter everything is thigh-deep in snow, which might take the gloss off, but in summer it seems like a very nice place to live indeed.
