Anza Borrego

East of the city of San Diego and thru the 'mountains' lies the Anza Borrego Desert and the township of Borrego Springs - once a baking desert outpost for cattle ranchers, but now trying hard to pull in the tourist dollars. Most of its registered residents don't actually live here all year round , as temperatures are well over 40c on most days during the spring and summer... This pic, from an autumn morning. The town is in the centre of the plain.

So you can imagine living there in summer would be like living in a pizza oven with sand..

We drove up the dusty driveway to the Anza Borrego Inn ...but there was no room ...there was however a not-so-friendly Tarantula in the parking lot.

We headed off to another motel (posing as a 'resort').. Borrego Springs on a Saturday night was pretty quiet...
