Los Angeles Saturday 15th Nov

I went to Los Angeles yesterday on some RNZ biz, and got caught up in the chaos surrounding the huge fires on the edge of the city.. I was miles away from the actual fires but the smoke and ash and traffic mayhem spread across town from the south-east edge of LA. Huge smoke clouds blocked out the sun, and ash rained down on motorists on the I-5 ... turning everything an eerie yellow-brown ..


This is driving south from Hollywood to central LA. There is a large group of skyscrapers up ahead - mostly obscured by the smoke.

Further south a huge smoke cloud crossed the freeway.

Maybe a little hard to see, but the smoke is right across the sky, twenty miles south-east of here it's a clear day...

By sunset the fires were still burning...
